CATTELL, James McKeen, American psychologist: b. Easton, Pa., 25 May 1860. He was graduated at Lafayette College in 1880, and studied at Leipzig, Paris, Geneva and Göttingen. He was assistant under Wundt at the University of Leipzig, professor of pyschology in the University of Pennsylvania in 1888-91 and professor of experimental psychology in Columbia University 1891-96; from 1896 to 1902 head of the department of anthropology, and from 1902 to 1905 professor in the department of philosophy. He resigned in 1917. He is coeditor of the Psychological Review and Science, and The American Naturalist.
