THE HAPPY LAND OF CANAAN.

DEDICATED TO THE

WAVERLEY CONFEDERATES,

Capt. Powell, Fifth Regiment Texas Volunteers.

By YENDIS NILKNARF.

1.

Oh! the Bayou City Guards, they will never ask for odds,
When the Yankees in a close place get them, ha, ha;
But with bayonet and shot, they will make the place too hot
For their health in this Happy Land of Canaan.

Chorus.

Oh! ho, ho, ho, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, the boys to Virginia are a going,
And they’ll always gain their fights
In the cause of Southern Rights,
Or be buried in this Happy Land of Canaan.

2.

The next upon the list, are the Colorado Echos,
Who on for the fray are marching, ha, ha,
And when they do arrive, the enemy they will drive
From the soil of this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

3.

There ’re the Leon Hunters, who are the ones to give them grunters,
When they have a chance to strike ’em, ha, ha,
And if they get a lick, they’ll be sure to make them sick
Of fighting in this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

4.

Oh the Waverley Confederates, will be the first upon the field,
When there’s a Yank’ to oppose them, ha, ha;
And if the buggars don’t make tracks, why, they’ll lay them on their backs,
And insert them in this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

5.

From the Dixie Blues, you will always here good news,
So never, for a moment, doubt them, ha, ha;
But just let them have a chance, and they’ll make the Yankee dance,
On their way from this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

6.

Oh, the Liberty Invincibles, are in for Southern principles,
And have taken the oath to support them, ha, ha;
And with their gallant little band, they will always be on hand
In a skirmish for this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

7.

Oh, the Milan County Greys, are the seventh in rotation,
And to Washington are eager to be taken, ha, ha;
And with Bowie-knife and lead, they will be the Yankee dread,
While they are charging for this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

8.

Oh the Polk County Rifles, they are not afraid of trifles,
When they’ve got Captain Cleveland to train ’em, ha, ha;
And if Uncle Sam’s men, don’t give up the day to them
They will blow them from this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

9.

Oh, the Texas Aids, they will stop these Yankee raids,
And make them more cautious in the future, ha, ha;
And will learn them in the broil not to trouble or to spoil
The wealth of this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

10.

Oh, the Yanke Hunters are the last upon the list,
But ever at post will be found, ha, ha;
So trust to their guard and nothing will retard
Our holding this Happy Land of Canaan.
Chorus.

In conclusion let me state, we’ll soon decide the fate
Of the cause which we are sworn to engage in, ha, ha;
So the girls we’ve left behind, may be easy in their mind,
About their lovers in this Happy Land of Canaan.
