Venkata Rao, Kolachelam, Pleader, Bellary; b. at Kamalapur near Hampi, Bellary District, 1850, educ: Wardlaw Institution, Bellary, and the Government High School, Bellary; School master. 1874; joined Government service as Head Clerk, District Munsift’s Court, Bellary; Deputy Tahsildar and Sub-Magistrate; qualified himself for the profession of Law; resigned service, 1880; commenced practice at Bellary 1880: proceeded to Bombay as one of Madras representatives for presenting an address to Lord Ripon, 1884; Visited England, 1902; elected, Chairman, Bellary Municipality, 1903; elected Member, Legislative Council, Madras, 1903; undertook a tour round the world, 1903; presided over the Social Conference, Madras, 1904; has built a Town Hall in Bellary at a cost of Rs. 30,000, a Caste Girls’ School at a cost of Rs. 7,000; Member, Theosophical Society.
