Wahab, Colonel Robert Alexander, also known as Wanhope; C.B. C.M.G. (1905), C.I.E. (1897), Indian Army; b. 1855; s. of Lieut.-Colonel H. Wahab; educ: Durham School; entered the Indian Army, 1873; served in Afghan War, 1878-80; Rumpa Rebellion, 1879; Mahsud Waziri Expedition, 1881; Zhob Valley Expedition, 1884; Hazara Expedition, 1888; Isazai Field Force, 1892; Wazaristan, 1894-95; Brevet Lieut.-Colonel, 1895; became Colonel, 1899; Anglo-Russian Boundary Commission, 1835; Russian Boundary Commission, 1896; Tirrah Expedition, 1897-98; Boundary Commissioner for Aden, 1902; retired, 1905; altered the spelling of his name from Wahab to Wanhope by deedpoll, 1911.
