FICHEL, fḗ′shĕl′, Eugène (1826-95). A French painter, born in Paris. He was a pupil of Paul Delaroche. His first work of importance was exhibited in 1850, “Harvey Demonstrating the Circulation of the Blood to Charles I.” Fichel has the miniature style of Meissonier, great care in finish, archæological exactness, and a kind of delicate humor. Among his numerous works are: “A Morning Call” (1855); “The Arrival at the Inn” (1863), in the Luxembourg; “The Foundation of the French Academy” (1872); “The End of Dinner” (1872); and “The Council of War” (1890).
