Frank′fort, the capital of Kentucky, is situated on the Kentucky River, 29 miles northwest of Lexington. It is noted for its beautiful scenery, has well-paved streets and several parks. Frankfort has an admirable public-school system, and other educational institutions are a young ladies' seminary and a military school. It contains the state-house, the state-library, the penitentiary and a beautiful cemetery.
