Habak′kuk, one of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament. He prophesied near the close of the 7th century B. C. His personal history is unknown. In his book he appears as a prophet of Judah, announcing the divine punishment which is to come upon his native land at the hands of Nebuchadrezzar, and his aim was to lead his people to trust in the God of Israel. Both as a poem and as a prophecy his book holds high rank among the Old Testament Scriptures.
