Joseph Bennet Sharland

BOSTON, Mass. March 22 — Joseph Bennett Sharland, who for twenty-seven years had been a well-known figure in musical circles in this city, died at his home, 857 Beacon Street, yesterday at the age of 76. After serving as musical director fo the grammar and high schools of this city for over a quarter of a century he resigned his position. He was an intimate friend of and coworker with Theodore Thomas. The festivals prepared in honor of Prince Albert and the Grand Duke Alexis were superintended by Mr. Sharland. He was known as a pianist, an organist, and a director. Mr. Sharland was born at Halifax, N. S. He is survived by one daughter Mrs. Mabel Sharland White.
