Westfield Lad to Try for Record. Eddie Schneider Will Begin Transcontinental Flight Next Month. Westfield, New Jersey; July 20, 1930. (Associated Press) Eddie Schneider, an 18-year-old Jersey City High School graduate, will attempt to set new junior trans-continental airplane speed records next month, flying to San Francisco and return. He will try to beat the mark set by the late Frank Goldsborough, who also started from Westfield airport. Young Schneider, an experienced pilot with 276 hours to his credit and a limited commercial pilots license, recently mad a non-stop flight from Wichita, Kansas, to New York, in 9 hours and 20 minutes. He will fly in four-place cabin monoplane purchased by his father.
