MR. J. CURRIE-ELLES.
Mr. James Currie-Elles who died at Rose Bay on Wednesday area 82 years was a well-known figure in Stock Exchange circles for many years. He retired from active business in 1923.
Mr. Currie-Elles was a linguist, and spoke five or six languages fluently. He spent some time in China, where he studied various exchange matters and became well versed in Eastern Questions of finance. He came to study in the early nineties, and first joined the New South Wales Stock Exchange, an opposition body to the Sydney Stock Exchange However, when that body dissolved soon afterwards he joined the Sydney Exchange. He dealt extensively in investment stocks, as well as mining shares. He was considered an authority on banking and exchange matters. of which he made a special study. Ill health caused him to retire from business in 1923. He retained a keen interest in Stock Exchange matters to the end and frequently visited the Stock Exchange to see his old friends.
The remains were cremated at the Rookwood Crematorium yesterday afternoon.
