Referring to the obituary notice of Mr. John Walter Sherer, C.S.I., in The Times of January 1, and the reference to his being one of the first to enter Cawnpore after the massacre. Mr. H. Collier Watson writes from 12, Bouverie-street, E.C. :—"Mr. Sherer in 1910, published a new and cheap edition of his 'Daily Life during the Mutiny,' under the new title of 'Havelock's March on Cawnpore, 1857,' and in the appendix drew attention to the fact that his old friend General Mowbray Thomson, one of the two officers who survived the massacre after 50 years' neglect by the War Office was still undecorated. The List of Honours conferred at the Dehli Durbar last month contains the name of General Mowbray Thomson.
