This Canada of ours and other poems/The Great Divide

(See Note 3.)

Two little rain drops side by side
Here at the top of the Great Divide,
Ever while falling their love grows warm,
Grows as they drift in the arms of the storm.
Restless they float where the wild winds fly,
Earthward they gaze from the cloudland high,
Aimless no longer they rush below,
Twinkling their eyes in the sunset glow,
Down to the flowers, the rivers and trees,
Into the paths of the summer breeze,
Vowing to wander together for aye,
Into the fatal divide they stray;
Divided for ever they float along,
Each sings to the other a parting song.
