The Council state that the position of the Society continues without any material alteration. Five new members have joined, and the Society now numbers 94 members. Ten general meetings have been held, but the attendance has not usually been large. At a general meeting of the Society, held on 24th November, 1875, Mr. C. M. Wakefield was elected an honorary member in recognition of his services to the Society during the years he had acted as honorary secretary.

Twelve papers have been read during the year.

The sub-committee appointed in 1875 to enquire into the nature, causes, and prevention of ergot in rye and other grasses, have brought up their report, which has been printed for distribution among those gentlemen who kindly assisted the committee in prosecuting their enquiries.

The nomination for the election of honorary members of the New Zealand Institute had been made in accordance with Statute IV.
