To the Nehiloth

Menahem interpreted concerning all of them: Nehiloth and Alamoth, Gittith, Jeduthun – they are all names of musical instruments; and the pleasantness of the Psalm was according to the song which is fitting to that instrument. And a haggadic midrash – there are those who explain Nehiloth – a language of heritage. And this is not the intent of the word. And the matter of the Psalm is also not speaking about heritage. And it is possible to interpret Nehiloth – troops; like: "swarm (nehil) of bees", (and like (Psalms 18:5): And floods of Belial, and its Targum is: And a group of guilty ones) – a prayer because of troops of enemies which come unto Israel; and the poet says this Psalm for all of Israel.

For the Leader; to the Nehiloth

To is like upon in meaning, like (1 Samuel 1:10): And she prayed unto God; For this child (1 Samuel 1:27) is the opposite. And the Aleph will not be changed with an Ayin; only the letters Aleph, He, Waw, Yodh are those that get changed with each other, and Sin with Samekh, for they are close in origin.
