שמעון הצדיק היה משיירי אנשי כנסת הגדולה.

הוא היה אומר:

על שלושה דברים העולם עומד —

על התורה, ועל העבודה, ועל גמילות החסדים.

English Translation

Shimon the Righteous was of the last of the Men of the Great Assembly.

He would say:

Upon three things the world stands —

upon the Torah, and upon service, and upon kind deeds.

Explanation

service: This refers either to general service of God, prayer, or the sacrificial Service in the Temple.
