That September night, you were
so kind to me... to the point that it hurt me!
I don’t know about the rest; and for all that,
you shouldn’t have been so kind, you shouldn’t have.

That night you sobbed when you saw me
withdrawn and unyielding, sick and sad.
I don’t know about the rest... and for all that
I don’t know why I was sad..., so sad...!

Only that sweet September night,
I held in your Magdalene eyes, all
the distance of God... and I was kind to you!

And also one September evening
when I sowed in your embers, by decree,
the puddles of this December night.
