Chap. XXIX.—An Act to augment the salaries of the district judges in the districts of Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, respectively.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That instead of the compensation at present allowed to the district judges for the districts of Massachusetts, New York, Delaware, and Maryland, respectively, there shall hereafter be allowed to the district judge for the district of Massachusetts, the yearly salary of sixteen hundred dollars; to the district judge for the district of New York, the yearly salary of sixteen hundred dollars; to the district judges for the district of New Jersey and Delaware, the yearly salaries of twelve hundred dollars each, and to the district judge for the district of Maryland, the yearly salary of sixteen hundred dollars, to be paid at the treasury of the United States in quarter-yearly payments.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That for the year one thousand eight hundred and one, there shall be appropriated the sum of eight hundred dollars, to satisfy the additional compensation hereby allowed to the district judges, to be paid out of any monies in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
