This page collects together the different techniques of dealing with page breaks in Page Namespace so that they transclude correctly into Mainspace.
Paragraph ending
editUse {{nop}} on the line immediately following the paragraph. Leave no space, line-breaks or other characters after the {{nop}}. There is nothing special that you need to at the top of the next page.
If the work is using double height paragraph breaks to represent a break in the text and one of these falls at the end of the page, leave a blank line between the paragraph and the {{nop}}.
Hyphenated word
editThis is a word in which the hyphen does not need to be retained.
On the first page use {{hws|pre-hyphen part|whole word}} and on the second page use {{hwe|post-hyphen part|whole word}}.
- hws = Hyphenated word start
- hwe = Hyphenated word end
Hyphenated phrase
editThe distinction here is that the hyphen must be retained.
On the first page use {{lps|hws=first part-|hyph=|hwe=second part}} and on the second page use {{lpe|hws=first part-|hyph=|hwe=second part}}
Emdash or endash at the end of a page
editOn the first page use {{lps|hws=first part—|hyph=|hwe=second part}} and on the second page use {{lpe|hws=first part—|hyph=|hwe=second part}}
The difference between this example and that of the hyphenated phrase above is the symbol at the end of first part. In the hyphenated phrase example the symbol is a hyphen. In the example in this section the symbol is an emdash.
Emdash or endash at the beginning of the next page
editOn the first page use {{lps|hws=first part|hyph=|hwe=—second part}} and on the second page use {{lpe|hws=first part|hyph=|hwe=—second part}}
Footnote
editWhen a footnote is split across a page break name the footnote on the first page using <ref name=blah> </ref> tags around the part that's on the first page. Then on the second page use <ref follow=blah> </ref> tags around that part.
