Popup edit

The overall goal of this proposal is to unite and improve the way that we handle the display of texts that appear in popups or are referenced through clicks. This can be footnotes, endnotes, line annotations, definitions, or annotations. Currently, Wikisource uses {{sic}} or {{tooltip}} both of which suffer from numerous problems, such as not working on iOS or on ebook readers. The new system would use css popups.

{{popup|type|Original text|Popup text}}

Type

  • A = Annotation
  • D = Definition
  • E = Errata (mistake the printer caught)
  • R = Reference (Footnote, Endnote, Figure, Table)
  • L = Line Reference, like in plays
  • S = sic (mistake the printer did not catch)

Each type would have its own css class.

Original text = text that is on the page

Popup text = What text the popup should contain, can be a <ref></ref>. Should also be able to handle a link such as "See note."
