Works in the public domain belong to the people—they belong to the collective, to society. No longer do they belong to individuals or corporate entities, but to everyone.

Most of the things listed below will be done either entirely automatically or semiautomatically.

Schedule

Mon—Fri

  • 5AM to 8AM – Prep the same day next week's work(s) to proofread. Start with the smallest work first.
  • A week's proofreading schedule will be autogenerated every Sunday (see #Sat–Sun).
    • For books/magazines specifically:
      • Produce scan if necessary
      • Upload scan to Wikimedia Commons if not already uploaded
      • Create index page
      • Skim through the scan and identify how the work is organized
      • Mark pages which do not need to be proofread
      • Process all images in the work if there are any (this gives enough time to send any to Photography workshop if need be).
      • Proofread the entire front matter. Note where back matter advertisements exist (you don't have to proofread them now if you don't want)
      • Create versions page for the work if needed, and disambiguate it from other works with similar titles (if another work needs to be moved to make way for example, there's a week's time for that to happen)
      • Transclude front matter
      • Add Wikidata items for both the work and the version (and the disambiguation page if a new one is created).
      • Deal with the OCR. Also while skimming the OCR, add immediately obvious scannos to waylaid.py to correct in future works.
    • For films specifically:
      • Upload to Wikimedia Commons if necessary
      • Create draft page
      • Proofread opening title cards
      • Disambiguate if needed ahead of time
      • Add Wikidata item for the film if it doesn't exist already, or add relevant information
  • 7 PM to 11 PM — Do 380-420 points worth of proofreading
    • Proofread the pages
    • Transclude each chapter as it's done
    • If the transcluded section is a work in its own right, it should be disambiguated or a redirect to it should be created. Create a Wikidata item for the disambiguation page or add to an existing one.
    • Wikidata item for the chapter, section, etc. Both a version page and a work/work section page for each(?)
    • When/if work is done, remove Template:Incomplete
    • Put Return to front matter on last page.
    • Mark index page as proofread and fully transcluded (or advertising not transcluded depending on ad status)
    • Remove Template:ssl or Template:esl from any pages linking to the work, like the author pages, portals, or a versions/dab page.
    • Add text to New texts (unless the work transcribed is distasteful). NOT ALLOWED TO BE AUTOMATED!

In addition to what's listed above (scheduled times will be different), spend at least an hour each day doing the following:

  • Create or expand author pages for books of interest
  • Add them to User:PseudoSkull/T per that page's requirements, so that those authors can be picked for processing
  • Spend at least 15 minutes appending WS:WPFU and WS:WPFN because a handful of those films will be picked at random during the lottery process.
  • Sunday specifically: autogenerate next week's work load for proofreading starting not this Monday but the Monday after.
    • For example (and this will be the first of the bunch), on September 26, the first workload will be processed for the week of October 4 through October 10. Start the process for Monday, October 4 at User:PseudoSkull/Load/2021/10/04, on Monday, September 27, a week ahead. Do the same on Tuesday, September 28 for Tuesday, October 5 at User:PseudoSkull/Load/2021/10/05. 10/04 will be the first to ever be proofread through this process, on that date.
