names and images

Hi, Documentation and Methodology for Frequently Occurring Names in the U.S.–1990 is certainly an interesting addition to wikisource, so please dont stop on account of the following - there is no requirement that the problems below are fixed immediately.

If 1990 Census Name Files dist.all.last (1-100) was part of the same publication, it should be a subpage, i.e. it should probably be moved to Documentation and Methodology for Frequently Occurring Names in the U.S.–1990/dist.all.last (1-100)

Our Image guideline notes that all images should be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons project. Is there any reason why your recent uploads would not be suitable on Commons? John Vandenberg ^(chat) 00:47, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I just came here to say the same thing, and found John had beaten me to it. I have recently been uploading some images from the Beatrix Potter books to Wikisource rather than Commons, because they're public domain in the US (having been published before 1923), but not in Potter's own country (since she's not yet dead 70 years), and Commons policy requires that images be PD (or under a free licence) both in the US and in the country of origin. I don't think there's any reason for your images to be here rather than at Commons, though, and an image hosted at Commons can be used at all the Wikimedia projects - you just add it exactly the same way as you would if it were hosted here. The Special:Upload page says, "As explained in the Image guidelines, all images should be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons except those strictly relevant only to the English Wikisource (such as a local project logo or user photograph). Images on the Wikimedia Commons can be used on all projects, including Wikisource." Cowardly Lion 22:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
