Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikisource! Thank you for adding James E English's Sine die Address of July 22 1870. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Please consider putting a brief description of yourself on your user page. If you are already a contributor to another Wikimedia project, such as Wikipedia, please mention this on your user page so we know how to contact you. Also, mention which languages you understand if English is not your first language.

In any case, I hope you enjoy donating your time to grow the Wikisource library that is free for everyone to use! In discussions, please "sign" your comments using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question here (click edit) and place {{helpme}} before your question.

Again, welcome! John Vandenberg 08:23, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image uploading

edit

Per the image guidelines, images should almost always be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, not Wikisource. When you upload works there, you can use the Commons original template prevent it from being edited. —Benn Newman (AMDG) 23:56, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

OCR

edit

Most of the images that you are requesting to be OCR'd are not able to be processed by OCR software, as it can not recognise handwriting or decorative fonts. They will need to be typed by hand. John Vandenberg (chat) 22:34, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Use of Page: and Side by Side

edit

Just saw the commentary about the Constitution. Something that might be worth considering is to have a copy of the image side by side to the text in the Page: namespace, and have it aligned with the text. Worth looking at Help:Side by side image view for proofreading as it is how we are now doing a lot of texts. -- billinghurst (talk) 22:45, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dampening Category:Spoken works when using {{listen}}

edit

When adding {{listen}} to subpages, would you please consider dampening the addition of the category by {{listen}}, otherwise many subpages show up in the category list. By adding {{spoken}} in the Notes section of the top level of the work it will add the work to the category above. Thanks. -- billinghurst (talk) 06:55, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
