CommonsTicker: new version to fix some problems

Hi - you may have noticed some problems with CommonsTicker lately - namely, some entries about deletions went missing, and some entries arrived several days late (messing up the date headings for ticker pages using append mode). This is caused by the massive replication lag we currently see on the toolserver (it's more than a day behind). While I hope this will not happen again in the future, I have been working on improving CommonsTicker so it handles out-of-sync entries gracefully.

I plan to activate a new version of CommonsTicker tonight or tomorrow - so look out for any new problems. Here are the most relevant changes:

• fix handling of out-of-sync records (see above); added "latecomer" parameter to TickerEntry template (may be ignored)
• deleted images can be restored now. To reflect this, I have added a "restored" action to CommonsTicker. To use it, you need to change your templates and/or CSS like this.
• for pages in append-mode, there an empty "status" parameter is now handed to the TickerEntry template - this parameter can be set manually to trigger some type of marking or highliting, depending on how you set up your template and CSS. See here for an example that strikes out the entry if status is set to "done".

For the future, I'm planning to let CommonsTicker post warnings to the talk page of articles that use an image das is (about to be) deleted. I'll post another announcement when that feature is ready.

SoftRedirect tab

Hi, I wrote this for User:BirgitteSB a few weeks ago and forgot to let people know about it, and I noticed that you were doing soft redirects on Recent changes. I believe it works in Internet Explorer, but I've only tested it in Firefox. Basically, you insert it into User:Yourname/monobook.js, perform a hard refresh, etc, and it adds a tab which either a) converts an existing #REDIRECT Blah blah into {{subst:Dated soft redirect|Blah blah}}; or b), if a #REDIRECT isn't there, it prompts you for the page.

UK Acts

I have made a start on the UK Acts at Wikisource:Legislative_documents/England and Wikisource:Legislative_documents/England/Henry_III - is this all OK? I have made an attempt at using the tables but they could be improved by a more experienced editor (like centering columns and proper sizing); also the four statutes I had put up prior to the discussions would need their names changing to the new versions (e.g. Stat. Merton - Attorneys in County Court Act 1235 to Attorneys in County Court Act 1235, found here) - I think that requires an administrator to do? Thanks for all your help on this, by the way. Copyright also vests in the author and their assigns

Copyright also vests in the copyright holder themselves. I am the copyright holder as the caretaker of these gifted diaries. So the limitations do not apply in this sort of case. Any person can publish their own letters, and they can also publish the letters of their parents, if their parents are dead for example, or grant their own copyright. I can't find anything on the copyright pages, or the accociated talk pages about this; so I've decided to contact you. I hope you can help, as you seem to be the reigning copyright-policy guru. I know of a work that is copyrighted by the author, but made available freely. I'd like to post this content on Wikisource, but I'm unclear if that would be bending policy, or outright breaking it. Bot For Headers

Hey, I programmed my bot to add headers to all the Rig Veda pages, so it will take care of it. Also, the algorithm can be easily tweaked to apply to other works, which is good. :) Politicaljunkie 20:19, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Chanson de Rencontre

I am the translator for Chanson de Rencontre and I disagree with you having moved it from Moniot d'Arras - Chanson de Rencontre. This is because "Chanson de Rencontre" is a generic term for a medieval "encounter" song, which is why I prefaced it with the author's name. See for yourself with this google search for "Chanson de Rencontre": [1]. I have no experience moving articles, so could you please move it back to its proper place? Thanks. The Happiest Day

I'm wondering where you've seen Poe's "The Happiest Day" written as such? As I know it, it was an unnamed work, which is why I'd moved it to (The Happiest Day) and noted on the author's page that "titles given below in parenthesis signify an unnamed or unpublished work." I chose parenthesis since the generally used square brackets are unusable in MediaWiki. I could see the poem being titled "The Happiest Day" (quotation marks included) as using the poem's lines themselves to identify it in lieu of an official name (e.g., "The happiest day, the happiest hour..."). To find executive orders, there are alot of sources out there. I've found the National Archive is good. Several Universities also keep some archives that are useful. Category:Works by year

Hi Zhaladshar, I was pointed to Wikisource:Scriptorium/Archives/2006/06#Standardise_eras by User:Pathoschild when I asked if it would be worthwhile to create a system like Wikipedia's to categorize works by year (see w:en:Category:19th century works, w:en:Category:1850s works, w:en:Category:1857 works). I read part of the discussion and you seem to think that eras are more useful for the reader. Currently there are only several broad era categories, so I'm wondering what you think about categories like Category:1744 works (one that I just created to replace Category:1744 books)? I feel that at the very least year and decade categories would be useful, which can then be placed in the corresponding era categories. Or, as I would prefer, we could go by centuries and just use the era information on the decade/century categories to identify the name of the time period. Soft redirect script

Hmmm... looks nice, but I can't seem to get it to work. My browser isn't purging or something. I still need to copy over my wikipedia monobook so that I get all the nice popups and tabs and such.
