Kup, Consul for Netherlands, and Jane Mary, e. d. of Major-General Morton; in. 1896. Educ.: Whitgift College, Croydon, and at Paiis. Attached to Lord Charles Beres ford's Special Mission to China 1898; participated in siege and defence of Tientsin when was Commandant of local volunteer force; afterwards attached to General Sir Alfred Gaselee's Staff as Guide and Interpreter for the relief of Peking, 1900; attached 9th Lancers 1896, and 7th Hussars 1901, at Aldershot; obtained Mounted Infantry certificate, Aldershot, 1902. Decoration: China Medal 1900, with clasp Relief of Peking (mentioned in despatches). Address: Peking, North China.
