H. Woods, D.D., Professor of Latin at Washington and Jefferson College, Pa. Educ. Washington and Jefferson College. Allegheny; Princeton Theological Seminary. Arrived China, Nov., 1888; resided Chinan in 1888; built, and for some years was Principal of, Clara Lintou Hamilton Memorial School; pastor, Presbyterian Church, Chinan; in charge of mission work in vicinity; by appointment of American Consul, Chefoo, arranged with Yuan Shih-kai for protection and safe convey to coast of over 100 missionaries, Protestant and Catholic, from Central and West Shantung and adjacent parts of Chihli and Houan, dm ing June and July, 1900; director, Shantung Protestant University, 1903; American Consular Agent, Chinanf 1905.
