YOUNG, Robert (KOBE), Editor and proprietor of the "Japan Chronicle," formerly the " Kobe Chronicle "; b. 1858. After being engaged in connection with printing and newspaper work in Great Britain arrived in Japan, 1885, as manager of the "Hiogo News"; severed connection with that journal in 1891 and started the " Kobe Chronicle," which was renamed the "Japan Chronicle" in 1904; has always strenuously upheld the interests of the foreign community in Japan and has done much to conserve the interests of foreigners, not only at Kobe, but in every part of Japan; for six years was honorary Secretary of the Kobe Advisory Committee, a body of five foreigners who are elected by the local foreign community to voice their views on points at issue with the Japanese authorities; was presented to H.M. the Emperor of Japan, with other members of the Advisory Committee in 1903.
