WHEELER, Miss Dora, artist, designer and decorator, born in Jamaica, Long Island, N.Y., 12th March, 1858. She is the daughter of Mrs Candace Wheeler, well known for her work in developing the art of needlework in the United States. Miss Wheeler early showed her fine artistic talents. Chase, and next she went to Paris, France, where she studied with Guillaume Adolphe Bouguereau and other eminent artists. She painted a number of fine pictures, but she has devoted herself mainly to decorative designing. Her paintings include a series of portraits of American and English authors. Her decorative designs cover a wide range, including Christmas. Easter and countless fancy cards and many contributions to periodicals that publish illustrated articles. Her work is ranked with the best in its line. Her home is in New York City.
