The foundation of this college was designed by sir John Balliol, of Barnard castle in Durham, knt., in the year 1268 ; but he dying in the year follow^ing, recom- mended the perfecting his design to his relict Dever- guilla-^*, who settled the said society, and prescribed them a body of statutes in the year 128a. PROCURATORS. Hugh de Hertipoll and William de Menyll were appointed by the foundress in or about 1282. PRINCIPALS or WARDENS. Walter de Foderingey, M.A.,was admitted in 1282, and resigned in 1296. Hugh de Warkenby, M.A., succeeded in 1296. Stephen de Cornwall, M.A., occurs by the title of warden of BalHol in 1303. Richard de Chick well, M.A., i8th Aug. 1309.
