Crawford, Martin Jenkins, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born March 17, 1820, in Jasper county, Ga. He was a member of the Georgia state legislature in 1845-47; and in 1853 was appointed judge of the superior court. In 1855-61 he was a representative from Georgia to the thirty- fourth, thirtyfifth and thirty-sixth congresses. He joined the great civil war as a member of the eonfederate congress; and was a commissioner to Washington. He died July 32, 1883, in Columbus, Ga. Crawford, Mary Caroline, journalist, author, was bom May 5, 1874, in Boston, Mass. In 1898-1902 she was literary critic for the Boston Budget. She is the author of The Romance of Old England Roof Trees.

Crawford, Thomas Hartley, la-svyer, jurist, congressman, Avas born on Nov. 14, 1786. in Chambersburg, Pa. In 1829-33 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the twenty-first and twenty-second congresses, and during the last named year was elected to the state legislature. In 1838-45 he was commissioner of Indian affairs. In 1845-63 he was judge of the criminal court of the District of Columbia. He died Jan. 27, 1863, in

Crawford, William, soldier, surveyor, was bom in 1732 in Berkeley county, Va. He was a surveyor: and the associate of Washington, under whom he served. He served in the French and Indian wars; in 1761 was promoted to captain; and in the revolutionary war became a colonel.
