Cutcheon, Byron M., soldier, lawyer, co'igressman, was born May 11, 1836, in Pembroke, N.H. He served in the civil war; was lieutenant captain, major and colonel of twentieth Michigan volunteers; was colonel United States volunteers in 1864; and was brevetted brigadier-general in 1865. He was a member of the board of control of railroads of Michigan in 1866-83; and was presidential elector in 1868. He was city attorney in 1873-74; was regent of the Michigan university in 1875-83; and was postmaster at Manistee City in 1877-83. In 1883-91 he was a representative to the forty-eighth, forty-ninth, fiftieth and fifty-first congresses as a republican. He died in 1908 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Cuthbert, Alfred, lawyer, congressman. United States senator, was born about 1781 in Savannah, Ga. He was first elected to the state legislature; and in 1813-17 and 182127 he was a representative from Georgia to the thirteenth, fourteenth, the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth congresses. In 1833-43 he was United States senator from Georgia. He died July 9, 1856, near Monticello, Ga. Cuthbert, James Hazard, clergyman, author, was born Dec. 13, 1823, in Beaufort, S.C. In 1869-93 he was pastor of the First baptist church in Washington, D.C. He was the author of Our Mission as Baptists; and Life of Richard Fuller.

Cuthbert, John A., congressman, was bom 3, 1788, in Savannah, Ga. In 1819-21 he was a representative from Georgia to the sixteenth congress, and was appointed in 1822 a commissioner to treat with the Creek and Cherokee Indians. He died Sept. 22, 1881, in Mobile, Ala. Cutler, Augustus W., lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born in 1829 in Morristown, N.J. He was a prosecutor for Morris county; in 1871 was elected to the state senate; and in 1875-79 he was a representative from New Jersey to the forty-fourth and

Benjamin Clarke, clergyman, was 6, 1798, in Roxbury, Mass. In the
summer of 1832 he took charge of the first city mission of the episcopal church in New York City; and in 1833 accepted a call to Anne's church in Brooklyn, where he spent the last thirty years of his life. He left a volume of sermons. He died Feb. 10, 1863, in Brooklyn, N.Y. St.
Cutler, Carroll, educator, college president was born Jan. 31, 1829, in Windham, N.H. He was elected to the chair of philosophy and ethics in the Western reserve college in 1860; and was its president in 187186. During his administration the college

Cutler, Condict Walker, physician, author, was born Feb. 27, 1859, in Morristown, N.J. In 1879 he graduated from Rutgers college with the degree of M. S.; and in 1882 graduated from the college

geons of Columbia university. In 1892-95 was professor of dermatology at the university of
Vermont;

1897-98 was visiting physician of the city hospital. In 1888-1902 he was physician in chief of the New York dispensary. He is the author of Manual of Difterential Medical Diagnosis; Differential Diagnosis of the Diseases of the Skin; Essentials of Physics and Chemistry; and Practical Lectures in Dermatology. Cutler, Elbridge Gerry, physician, author, 7, 1846, in Farmington,
was born on Sept.
Maine. Since 1875 he has practiced medicine in Boston, Mass. He is the author of Percussion Outlines. Cutler, Elbridge Jefferson, educator, poet, was born Dec. 28, 1831, in Holliston, Mass. He was a professor of modern languages at Harvard university in 1865-70. He was the author of War Poems; and Stella. He died Dec. 27, 1887, in Cambridge, Mass. Cutler, Enos, soldier, lawyer, was born 1, 1781, in Brookfield, Mass. He studied law, and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. He joined the army and was appointed lieutenant in 1808, rising by successive promotions to be colonel in 1836. He saw service in the war of 1812, in the first Seminole campaign and in the Creek war. He died July 14, 1860, in Salem, Mass.

1767 in Edgarton, Mass. He was appointed judge of quarter sessions and judge of common pleas of Ohio. He early interested himself in education; and stimulated the people of Ames and Dover townships to establish a public library. This is thought to have been the first incorporated public library in the west. He is the author of a History of the First Settlement of Amestown in Athens County, Ohio; and The First Settlement of Athens county. He died in 1853 in Amestown, Ohio. Cutler, Mrs. Hannah Maria, physician, author, was born Dec. 25, 1815, in Becket, Mass. She is a prominent woman suffragist who became a physician in 1879, practicing in Cobden, 111. She was the author of Woman
