Cutler, Henry Stephen, musician, was born Oct. 7, 1824, in Boston, Mass. In 186068 he was organist and choir-master in Trinity church of New York City. He compiled The Psalter, with Chants; Trinity Psalter; and Trinity Anthems. He died in 1903 in New York City. Cutler, James Elbert, educator, author, was born Jan. 34, 1876, in Princeville, 111. He has been an instructor in Yale and Wellesley colleges and the university of Michigan; and since 1907 has been associate professor of sociology in the Western reserve university. He is the author of Lynch Law, an Investigation into the History of Lynching in the United States. Cutler, Jervis, pioneer, author, was bora Sept. 19, 1768, in Edgartown, Mass. He was a western pioneer. He was the author of Topographical Description of the Western Country. He died June 35, 1844, in Evans-

He became a successful merchant of Salt Lake City, Utah; and prominently identified with the business and public affairs of that state. In 1884-90 he was county clerk for Salt Lake county, Utah; and filled various other positions of trust and honor. He is president of the Cutler brothers company; vice-president of the American surety company; vice-president of the Beneficial life insurance company of Utah; a member of the executive committee; and a director of the Utah and the Idaho sugar companies, with a capital of eleven million dollars, and who made over one hundred million barrels of sugar in 1908. He is also a director in the Deseret national bank and five other banks; and is interested in various other corporations. He was governor of the state of Utah for the term of 1905-09; and resides in Salt Lake City,

the sixth Wisconsin regiment; and subsequently was in command of the Iron Brigade of the army of the Potomac, to which his regiment was attached, and won the promotion of brigadier-general and afterward major-general. He died on July 30, 1866, in Milwaukee, Wis. Cutler, Manasseh, clergyman, explorer, congressman, was born May 3, 1742, in Killingly. Conn. He was one of the first scientific explorers of the White mountains; and in 1787 organized an expedition to the northwest territory. He served a number of years in the legislature; and was pastor of the church at Hamilton, Mass., until his death. In 1801-05 he was a representative to the seventh and eighth congresses. He died July 29, 1823, in Hamilton, Mass. Cutler, Nahum Sawin, manufacturer, legislator, genealogist, was born April 7, 1837, in Vernon, Vt. He is a successful shoe manufacturer of Greenfield, Mass.; and a director in the Franklin county national bank and other corporations. In 1889-90 he was a member of the Massachusetts house of representatives. He is the author of The Cutler Memorial; and History of the Town of Bernards ton.
Nathan, state senator, governor, 29, 1775, in Lexington, Mass. In 1838-29 he was a member of the Maine state senate from Kennebec county. In 1829 he was president of that body by virtue of which office he became governor for the unexpired term of Governor Lincoln. He died June 8, 1861, in Farmington, Maine.
