Dallas, Alexander James, cabinet officer, author, was born June 21, 1759, on the Island of Jamaica. He was secretary of state in 1796-1801; and in 1814-16 he was secretary of the treasury. He was the author of a series of Letters from London; Eulogy on Andrew Jackson;' and numerous speeches and addresses. Died Dec. 31, 1864, in Philadelphia. Dallas, George Mifflin, lawyer, jurist, was born Feb. 7, 1839, in Pittsburg, Pa. Since 1892 he has been United States circuit judge of the third circuit of Pennsylvania. He was a delegate to the constitutional convention which framed the present constitution of Pennsylvania. Dallas, Mary Kyle, author, poet, was born in 1830. She was a noted poet and storywriter. She died Aug. 25, 1897, in New York City. Dallas, Robert Frank, painter, artist, was born June 6, 1855, in Camillus, N.Y. In 1886 he was made instructor in oil painting and modeling in the college of fine arts of New York City; and in 1893 became professor of
these classes. Dallas, Trevamon Barlow, soldier, manufacturer, was born on Sept. 11, 1861. He enlisted in the civil war under the command of General Chase; and attained the rank of lieutenant of artillery. In 1891 he organized the Dallas company; and built and equipped a mill at Huntsville, Ala.
