Dalsheimer, Alice, educator, author, poet, was born Dec. 1, 1845, in New Orleans, La. Her writings consist of numerous sketches, short stories and poems which appeared under the pseudonym of Salvia Dale. She died Jan. 15, 1880, in New Orleans, La. Dalton, Edward Barry, physician, author, was born Sept. 21, 1834, in Lowell, Mass. In 1869 he originated the present city ambulance system for the transportation of the sick and injured. He published The Metropolitan Board of Health; and Reports of the Sanitary Superintendent of the Metropolitan Board of Health from 1866 to 1869. He died May 13, 1872, in Santa Barbara, Cal. Dalton, John Call, educator, physician, author, was bom Feb. 2, 1825, in Chelmsford, Mass. He was a professor in various medical colleges. He was the author of Observations on Trichina Spiralis; The Experimental Method in Medical Science; Doctrines of the Circulation; Topographical Anatomy of the Brain; History of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City; Treatise on Human Physiology; and Treatise on Physiology and Hygiene. He died Feb. 11, 1889, in New York City. Dalton, Test, journalist, author, was born Sept. 13, 1877, in Chicago, 111. For many years he contributed many short stories to popular magazines; and resided in Indianapolis, Ind. He was the author of The Role of the Unconquered. He died in 1907 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Dalton, Tristam, state legislator. United States senator, was born in May, 1743, in Newbury, Mass. He was a representative and speaker, and a senator in the legislature of Massachusetts. In 1789-91 he was United States senator. He died May 30, 1817, in Boston, Mass. Dalton, William Robert Inge, soldier, physician, author, was born Dec. 6, 1861, in Livingston, Al'a. He served four years in the confederate army and navy; served one month in the Peruvian navy; and served four months in the Brazilian navy. He has been president of the American pharmaceutical league; and practices medicine in Tacoma, Wash. He is the author of HyperAcidity, a Cause of Skin Diseases. Daly, Charles Patrick, lawyer, jurist, author, was born Oct. 31, 1816, in New York City. He was a member of the New York assembly in 1843; for forty-two years was Judge court of common pleas for City of New York; and for twenty-seven years was chief justice of the court. Since 1864 he has been president American geological society.

He

is the author of Historical Sketch of the Judicial Tribunals of New York, 1823-46; Reports of Cases in Court of Common Pleas, City and County of New York; First Settlement of Jews in North America; and What we Kne* of Maps and Map Drawing before Mercator. also a noted lawyer of Idaho. Daly, John Augustin, dramatist, author, was born July 20, 1838, in Plymouth, N.C. He opened to the American stage the rich field of German farcial comedy. He was the author of Pique; Under the Gaslight; and other plays. He died June 7, 1899, in Paris, France. Daly, John J., mine owner, banker, was born Oct. 18, 1853, in Morris, 111. He is president and principal owner of the Daly West mining company, which operates one of the greatest mines of Utah. He is also president of the First national bank of Park City, Utah. Daly, Joseph Francis, lawyer, jurist, was born Dec. 3, 1840, in Plymouth, N.C. In 1870 he became judge of the court of common pleas of New York City; and in 1890-99 was chief judge of the court. Daly, Paul J., lawyer, statesman, was bom Aug. 16, 1862, in Melbourne, Australia. He received the rudiments of his education in the public schools of Charleston, New Zealand; and at Minneapolis, Minn.; subsequently attending the university of Minnesota. He has attained success in the practice of law; and is now assistant city attorney for Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been secretary of the state democratic committee for Utah-; and is now secretary of the state committee of the American party of Utah.
