Davidson, James 0., merchant, governor, was born Feb. 10, 1854, in Norway. Since 1873 he has been a resident of Wisconsin, and for twenty-three years has been engaged in the mercantile business. In 1892-98 he was a representative in the Wisconsin state legislature; was state treasurer in 1898-1902; and in 1902-06 was lieutenantgovernor. In 1906 he became governor of Wisconsin; and was reelected for the term ending in 1911. . Davidson, James Wheeler, journalist, diplomat, author, was born June 14, 1872, in Austin, Minn. Future. Davidson, James Wood, soldier, educator, legislator, author, was born March 9, 1829, in Newberry, S.C. He was an educator of South Carolina and elsewhere. He served under Stonewall Jackson as lieutenant and adjutant; and he served as a representative in the Florida legislature in 1887-88. He is the author of Living Writers of the South; School History of South Carolina; The Poetry of the Future; and Florida of To-day. He died in 1905 in Osera, Fla. Davidson, John Wynn, soldier, was born Aug. 18, 1824, in Fairfax county, Va. He served in the Mexican war; in the war against the Apache and Utah Indians; and through the civil war. He was promoted brigadier-general of volunteers in 1862; and in 1865 was made major-general for meritorious services. He died June 26, 1881, in Washington, D.C. Davidson, Robert H. M., soldier, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born Sept. 23, 1832, in Gadsden, Fla. He served two terms as a representative in the state legislature; and was state senator in 1860. In 1862 he entered the confederate army, rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He was a member of the state constitutional convention of 1865; and in 1877-91 he was a representative from Florida to the forty-fifth, forty-sixth, forty-seventh, the forty-eighth, forty-ninth, fiftieth, and fifty-first congress^ es as a democrat. Davidson, Sam Houston, soldier, lawyer, college president, legislator, was born Jan. 29, 1848, in Camden, Tenn. He was in the confederate service during the civil war. In 1877-79 he was a representative of the Arkansas house of representatives; in 188991 served as state senator; and in 1889 was a candidate for lieutenant-governor of his state. He was president of the Pacific and great Eastern railroad company; and president of the Evening Shade college. Davidson, Thomas, philosopher, author, was born Oct. 25, 1840, in Scotland. Since 1866 he has been a writer on art and philosophy at Cambridge, Mass.
