For three years he was principal of the Ohio farm reform state school for boys at Lancaster. In 1863-65 he w as chief clerk of the state senate of Ohio. During the civil war he was correspondent of the Cincinnati Gazette;
and saw much
prison life and the hardships of the war. In 1S65-70 he served as pension agent. He was one of a commission of three to locate and build an asylum for the insane in southern Ohio. In 1873 he was appointed assistant treasurer of the United States. He is president of the Cincinnati and Westwood of
railroad company. Davis, William Elias Browiilee, physician, surgeon, was born Kov. 25, 1863, in Truasville, Ala. He began the practice of medicine in Birmingham, Ala.; where he has since founded a private sanitarium. In 1888-1902 he was president of the southern surgical gynaecological association which he had founded. He died Feb. 24, 1903, in Birmingham, Ala. was born June 10, 1839, in Loydsville, Ohio. He served a three months' enlistment in the fourth Ohio regiment in 1861; and then re-enlisted in the ninety-sixth Ohio volunteers; and remained in service until physically disabled and honorably dischajged. In 1864-1900 he practiced law at Marion, Ohio. Since 1900 he has been judge of the state supreme court of Ohio. Davis, Wirt, soldier, was born May 28, 1839, in Richmond, Va. During the civil war he served from private to first lieutenant. In 1901 he was retired with the rank of brigadier-general of the United States army after forty years of service. Davis, Woodbury, lawyer, jurist, author, was born July 25, 1818, in Standish, Maine. In 1855-65 he was an associate justice of the supreme court of Maine.
