He was editor of the Albany Evening Journal in 1846-77; and author of The Pleasures of Angling. He died in 1883 in Albany, N.Y. Dawson, George Ellsworth, educator, was bom Dec. 23, 1861, in Berkeley Springs, W. Va. In 1887 he received the degree of A.B. from the university of Michigan; in 1888-89 studied at the university of Leipzig; and subsequently received the degree of PhJJ. from Clark university. In 1891-93 he was professor of English and literature at the South Dakota agricultural college; in 189395 was instructor of English at the university of Michigan; in 1895-97 was a fellow in psychology at Clark university; and in 1897-1901 was professor of psychology at the Hartford school of religious pedagogy. In 1901-02 he was head of the department of history at Pratt institute; and since 1903 has been professor of education at Mount Holyoke college of South Hadley, Mass. He has contributed to American literature on educational topics. Dawson, Henry Barton, journalist, author, was born June 8, 1821, in England. He was editor of the Historical Magazine in 186677; and editor of the Federalist, reprinted from the original text. He was the author of Battles of the United States by Sea and Land; Current Fictions Tested by Undercurlent Facts; Rutgers against Waddington; and Westchester County in the Revolution. He died May 23, 1889, in Morrisania, N.Y.

Dawson, John B., lawyer, jurist, congressman, was bom in 1800 in Nashville, Tenn. In 1841-45 he was a representative from Louisiana to the twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth congresses; and had repeatedly served in the legislature of Louisiana.
