In 1858-66 he was professor of mathematics at union college. He is president of the Mohawk national bank of Schenectady, N.Y. Dern, John, merchant, capitalist, was born 24, 1850, in Germany. In 1869-81 he was engaged in farming in Dodge county. Neb. He has large grain, lumber and mining interests. In 1889 he was a Nebraska state senator. In 1890-94 he was treasurer of Dodge county. Neb. De Rosset Annand, John, physician, was born March 17, 1875, in Wilmington, N.C. He practiced medicine for sixty-nine years. He was appointed port physician at Wilmington, N.C; and held that position for many years. He died April 1, 1859, in Wilmington, N.C. De Rosset, Moses John, physician, inventor, was born July 4, 1838, in Wilmington, N.C. In 1859 he was appointed physician to the Belvidere hospital of New York City. During the civil war he was assistant surgeon in the confederate army. He later devised a new form of inhaler for ansesthesia; and also a. new form of canule scissors for operating within the eye. 1832, in Wilmington, at St. Timothy's hall and at St. James' college of Maryland, and at the university of North Carolina. During the civil war he entered the confederate service as captain in the Wilmington light infantry; was appointed major of the third North Carolina infantry; and became colonel of that regiment. He was disabled at Sharpsburg in 1863; and in 1865 was appointed colonel of invalid corps. He has been commander of Cape Fear camp united confederate veterans; and for five years was majorgeneral commanding the North Carolina division of the united confederate veterans. He has been a successful merchant; and is now secretary and treasurer of the Navassa guano company of Wilmington, N.C. Derr, Louis, educator, author, was born Aug. 6, 1868, in Pottsville, Pa. Since 1904 he has been associate professor of physics in the Massachusetts institute of technology; and since 1895 in charge of instruction in physics at the Boston normal school of gymnastics. Physics and Chemistry. De Rudio, Charles, soldier, was born Aug. 26, 1832, in the City of Bellano. In 1864 he enlisted as a private in the seventy-ninth New York regiment; and received a lieutenant's commission in the United States colored troops. In 1876 he served in the campaign against the Sioux Indians; and in 1882 was promoted to the rank of captain. De Russy, Gustavus Adolphus, was born Nov. 3, 1818, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was mustered out of the volunteer service in 1866; Avas promoted to be major in the regular army in 1866; became lieutenantcolonel in 1879; attained the rank of colonel in 1882; and was retired in 1882. He died May 29, 1891, in Detroit, Mich. De Russy, Isaac Denniston, soldier, was born June 13, 1840, in Fort Monroe, Va. He served through the civil war and was brevetted major in 1865. In 1891 he became colonel of the eleventh regiment; and brigadiergeneral in 1902.
