Maine. In 1854 he was elected to the state, and in 1855 to the state senate. In 1855-59 he was state superintendent of common schools; and in 1856 was a delegate to the national convention at Philadelphia. In 1861 he entered the union army as colonel of infantry. In 1862 he was United States consul at Vera Cruz, Mexico. In 1865 he went to Minnesota; was a member of the legislature of that state in 1867; and was state superintendent of public instruction in 1867-70. In 1871-83 and 1889-91 he was a representative to the forty-second, legislature;
forty-third, forty-fourth, forty-fifth, fortysixth, forty-seventh and fifty-first congresses as a republican. He died in 1904 in Owa-
tonna, Minn. Bunnell, William Nichols, clergyman, was born Feb. 3, 1835, in New York City. In 1859-71 he was rector of Trinity church of
Red Bank,
N.J.; and since 1871 has been rector of All Saints' church of New York City. For the past
twenty-five years he has been chaplain of the twenty-second regiment New York national guard; and has

Dunning, Albert Elijah, clergyman, jourauthor, was born Jan. 5, 1844, in Brookfield, Conn. He is a congregational clergyman of Boston; and since 1889 has been editor-in-chief of the Congregationalist. He is the author of The Sunday-School Library Bible Studies and Congregationalists in America. Dunning, Mrs. Annie Ketchum, author, was born Nov. 3, 1831, in New York City. She is a prolific writer of Sunday-school tales, mainly for the presbyterian board of publication. Among them are Clementina's Mirror; A Story of Four Lives; Broken Pitchers; and Contradictions. Dunning, Edwin James, dentist, author, was born July 19, 1821, in Camillusi N.Y. He practiced dentistry in Ithaca, Syracuse and nalist,

Dunning, Homer N., clergyman, author, was bom July 17, 1837, in Brookfield, His poems have appeared in Edwards' Fifth poet,
Reader, Foster's Cyclopedia, and other standard works. Dunning, Henry Nicholas, clergyman, was born May 17, 1866, in Canada. He was educated at the Queen's university of Kingston; attended the McCormick theological seminary of Chicago; and studied at the Oxford university of England. He has filled pastorates in Pawnee City and Lincoln, Neb.; and in
Watertown and
Al-
bany, N.Y. He is now pastor of the Clinton square presbyterian church of Albany, N.Y. In 1908 he delivered illustrated patriotic and missionary addresses at his church on Our Wonderful Country, Our Red Brothers and other topics. Dunning, Paris C, governor. He was the eighth governor of Indiana in 1848-49 to fill a vacancy. He died in Indiana. Dunning, William Archibald, educator, author, was born in Plainfield, N.J. He is professor of history at Columbia university. In 1894-1903 he was managing editor of the Political Science Quarterly.
