He has attained success in the practice of medicine in Chicago, 111.; is an eminent obstetrician; and makes a specialty in diseases of children. He is professor of pediatrics in the college of physicians and surgeons of Chicago, 111.; is consulting physician to the Home for crippled children. He is a medical examiner for the Michigan mutual life insurance company and medical examiner for the Equitable life insurance company of Iowa. He is a member of the American medical association; a member of the Illinois state, Chicago and Gynfecological, Pathological and Medico-Legal Societies; and a fellow of the American association of obstetricians and
gynaecologists. Earle, Franklin Summer, botanist, author, was bom Sept. 4, 1856, in Dwight, 111. In
1886 he was connected with the university of Illinois; and since 1896 has taught horticulture in various institutions. He is a, fellow of the American association for the advancement of science. He is the author of Textbook of Plant Pathology. Earle, George H., laivyer, banker, was born July 6, 1856, in Philadelphia, Pa. He is president of the Market street national bank; is president of the Tradesmen's national bank; and is president of the Real estate trust company of Philadelphia, Pa. Earle, John B., congressman, was born in South Carolina. In 1803-05 he was a representative from South Carolina to the eighth congress. He died in South Carolina. Earle, Joseph Haynesworth, lawyer, jurist, United States senator, was bom April 30, 1847, in Greenville, S. C. For six years he served as a member of the South Carolina state legislature; and for two years was a member of the state senate. In 1886-90 he served as attorney-general of South Carolina; and in 1890 'he was a candidate for governor. Then in 1894 he was elected circuit judge; and in 1896 was elected to the United States senate as a democrat. He died May 20, 1897, in Greenville, S.C.
