has held various town and village offices; and was county judge of Herkimer county in 1855-59. He was one of the foimders and in 1901 was president, of the Herkimer county historical society. Together with his wife, he founded Herkimer free library, and gave it about thirty thousand dollars worth of property. In 1869-95 he was judge of the court of appeals of New York. He died Dec. 2, 1902, in Herkimer, N.Y.

Eames, Charles, journalist, lawyer, diplomat, was bom March 20, 1812, in New Braintree, Mass. He was appointed commissioner to the Sandwich Islands for the negotiation of a treaty. He edited the Nashville Union until sent as minister to Venezuela by President Pierce. He returned to Washington in 1858, where he practiced law until his death.
