Since 1875 he has been engaged in the 'banking business in Boone, Iowa; and is now president of the City bank of Boone. In 1895-1903 he was a member of the Iowa state senate; and assisted in revising Iowa codes of 1873 and 1897. He is vice-president of the Iowa state library association; and in 1902 received the degree of LL.D. from

Ericson, John Ernst, civil engineer, was born Oct. 21, 1858, in Stockholm, Sweden. Since 1884 he has been connected with the city of Chicago as assistant engineer; and since 1897 as city engineer. He had charge of the construction and operation of the Chicago water-works, harbor work and bridges. Ericsson, John, engineer, inventor, was born July 31, 1803, in Sweden. To this skill-
