Estey, Julius Jacob, manufacturer, state senator, was born Jan. 8, 1845, in Brattleboro, Vt. He was president of the Estey organ company. In 1876 he was a member of the Vermont legislature, and in 1883 a state senator. He was lieutenant-colonel and colonel of the national guard of Vermont; and in 1892-98 was brigade commander. He died March 7, 1902, in Brattleboro, Vt.

soldier, journalist,
was born Oct. 28, 1840, in Charleston. During the war he served in the confederate army. In 1867 he secured control of the well known southern newspaper, the Savannah Morning News, and built up one of the most complete printing houses in the south. Albert, soldier, congressman, was born Jan. 30, 1845, in St. Bernard, La. In 1872-76 he was sheriff of St. Bernard parish; and in 1876-80 he was a member of the Louisiana house of representatives; and in 1880-1900 was a member of the state senate. In 1899 he was a member of the Louisiana constitutional convention. In 1900-04 he was lieutenant-governor of Louisiana. In 1862-65 he served in the civil war. In 1907-11 he was a representative from Louisiana to the sixtieth and sixty-first congresses as a Estipinal,
democrat. Estorge, Joseph Leonard, physician, surgeon, was born in 1830 in Opelousas, La. He was appointed a surgeon in the confederate army in the trans-Mississippi department, but was made a prisoner at Fort de Eussey. He died Aug. 21, 1880, in Opelousas, La.
Esty, Constantino C, lawyer, congressman, was born Dec. 26, 1824, in Framingham, Mass. He was a member of the Massachusetts state senate in 1857-58; and of the house in 1867. He was appointed a member of the state board of education in 1871; and in 1871-73 he was a representative from
Massachusetts to the forty-second congress. Esty, William, electrical engineer, author, was born July 9, 1868, in Amherst, Mass. Since 1903 he has been a professor of electrical engineering the the Lehigh university. He is the author of Alternating Current Machinery; and part author of Elements of
Electrical Engineering, in two volumes; of Dynamo Laboratory Manual.

Etheridge, Emerson, lawyer, congressman, Sept. 38, 1819, in Currituck county, N.C. He was elected to the state legislature for two years. In 1853-61 he was' a representative from Tennessee to the thirty-third, thirty-fourth and thirty-sixth congresses. In 1867 he was candidate for governor. In 1869 he was a member of the state senate. He was surveyor of customs at Memphis in 1891-94.

Etue, Peter D., soldier, journalist, poet, was born June 39, 1846, in Ontario, Canada. In 1863 he enlisted in the fourteenth New York cavalry, serving three years as a private, and as orderly for General Emory. He established the Kansas City Live Stock Indicator in 1878, disposing of it in 1893. He has held many political positions in Kansas City, Mo., including that of alderman and member of the school board. His poems have appeared in current newspapers and magazines.

Eustis, Abram, soldier, was born March 28, 1786, in Petersburg, Va. He was brevetted lieutenant-colonel for meritorious services in 1813; became lieutenant-colonel of the fourth artillery in 1822; brigadier-general in 1834; and a few months later colonel of the first artillery. He died June 27, 1843, in Portland, Maine.
