Fearing, Lillien Blanche, lawyer, poet, was born in 1870. She practiced law in Chicago, 111., and was well-known as the blind woman lawyer. She is the author of The Sleepy World and Other Poems; In the City by the Lake; and Roberta. She died Aug. 15, 1900, in Eureka Springs, Ark.
Fearing, Paul, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Feb. 28, 1762, in Wareham, Mass. He was a member of the first legislative council in Ohio in 1799; and in 1801-03 was a delegate to congress. Featherston, Winfield Scott, soldier, congressman, was born Aug. 8, 1821, in Rutherford county, Tenn. In 1847-51 he was a representative to the thirtieth and thirtyfirst congresses as a democrat; but was defeated for a third term by the union candidate. He took part in the rebellion of 186165 as a brigadier-general. He died May 28, 1890, in Holly Springs, Miss.
Featherstonhaugh, George William, travgeologist, author, was born in 1780. In his early life he spent many years in North America, and in 1834-35 made for the United States war department a geological inspection of part of the western country. In his reports, which were printed by order of congress, he is called "United States geologist." He died Sept. 30, 1796, in Philadelphia, Pa. Febiger, John Carson, naval officer, born Feb. 14, 1821, in Pittsburg, Pa. He served in the United States navy during the civil war; attained the rank of commodore; and in 1882 he was made rear admiral in the United States navy; and about 1886 retired from active service. Fechter, Charles Albert, actor, was born Oct. 33, 1834, in London, England. He came to New York and appeared for the first time on the American stage at Niblo's garden in 1870, as Ruy Bias. The last part which he created was Karl in Lover's Penance, produced at the Park theater in 1874. He died Aug. 5, 1879. Fechter, Oscar A., banker, financier, was born Sept. 3, 1864, in Manitowoc, Wis. In 1888-1904 he was engaged in real estate at North Yakima, Wash. Since 1904 he has been president of the Yakima valley bank; and has other business interests. He has been mayor of North Yakima for eight terms. Fedigan, John J., clergyman, college president, founder, was born April 27, 1842, in Ireland. In 1868 he was ordained priest; and has filled pastorates in New York and Pennsylvania.
