He received a medal from the Massachusetts humane society for assistance in saving two ladies from drowning at Ogunquet Beach in 1899. He was educated at the Virginia polytechnic institute, graduating in agriculture from that institution with the degree of B.S.; and he received the degree of veterinary science at the United States college of veterinary surgeons at Washington, D.C. He is associate-professor of veterinary science at the Virginia polytechnic Institute of Blacksburg, Va. He is also state veterinarian of Virginia; and resides in Blacksburg, Va.
