He was a distinguished meteorologist employed at various times in the coast survey and the signal service. He was the author of Recent Advances in Meteorology Popular Treatise on the Winds; and Motions of Fluids and Solids on the Earth's Surface. He died Sept. 18, 1891, in Maywood, Kan. Ferrell, Chiles Clifton, educator, author, was born Aug. 20, 1865, near Greenville, S.C. Since 1893 has been professor of modern languages in the university of Mississippi. Ferrero, Edward, educator, soldier, was born in 1831 in Spain. He conducted a dancing school in New York City; and taught dancing at the military academy of West Point. He raised the fifty-first New York regiment; became its colonel; and was brevetted brigadier-general and major-general. He died Dec. 13, 1899, in New York City. Ferris, Albert Warren, physician, neurologist, founder, was bom Dec. 3, 1856, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Since 1892 he has practiced medicine in New York City; in 1893-1901 was assistant in neurology at Columbia university; and since 1899 incorporator, director and financial secretary of the Pringle memorial home of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
