Gamble, Hamilton Rowan, lawyer, jurist, governor, was born Nov. 29, 1798, in Winchester, Va. In 1824-26 he was secretary of state; and in 1851-55 was a justice of the supreme court of Missouri. He was an active member of the constitutional convention of Missouri at the opening of the rebellion in 1861; and in 1861-64 was the fourteenth governor of that state.
