Gannett, William Howard, journalist, pubstatesman, was born Feb. 10, 1854, in Augusta, Maine. He was educated in the public schools of his native state. He began his business career in boyhood; and until 1888 was a clerk in Augusta stores. About 1888 he began the publication of a family paper entitled Comfort, which now has a circulation of over one million copies. Gannon, Anna, author, poet, was born June 6, 1876, in Philadelphia, Pa. She visited Europe in 1896, 1898 and 1899; and is known as a successful contributor to magazines. She is the author of a volume of poems entitled The Song of Stradella and Other Songs; A Dream of Shakespeare's Women a dramatic poem for Miss Julia Marlowe; and numerous short stories for

current publications.

Gannon, Thomas Joseph, educator, college president, lecturer, was born July 14, 1853, in Cambridge, Mass. In 1891-96 he was president of St. John's college of Fordham, N.Y. He is provincial or general superior of the New York and Maryland province of the Jesuits. Gannt, E. W., lawyer, statesman, author, was born March 17, 1832, in Tennessee. He was elected a representative in congress from Arkansas in 1860, but does not appear to have taken his seat.
