5, 1837, near Morrisville, Pa. He invented a great many mechanical devices. He served throughout the civil war; and attained the rank of major. In 1896-98 he was United States consul in India. He was interested in the manufacture of agricultural machinery and in producing oil. Comfort, Aaron Ivins, physician, surgeon, was born March 4, 1827, in Penn's Manor, Pa. Ho received his education in the public schools, Williston college, and the university of Pennsylvania He was assistant instructor of the classics and higher mathematics, and as assistant demonstrator of anatomy in the university of Pennsylvania, and consuming physician of the Southern dispensary of Philadelphia. During the civil war he was captain and assistant surgeon of the United States volunteers; and acting assistant surgeon United States army during 1865-92. He is now first assistant surgeon in the National home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Milwaukee, Wis. Dr. Comfort has contributed monographs on Indian mounds to Smithsonian institution. Comfort, Mrs. Anna Manning, physician, author, poet, was born Jan. 19, 1845, in Trenton. N.J. In 1871 she married George F. Comfort, the noted educator and art critic of Syracuse, N.Y. turer, author, was born July 33, 1816, in Cherbourg, Del. He was professor of the institutions of medicine in Miami medical college. In 1857 he became a lecturer on clinical medicine in the Cincinnati hospital, where he was later president of the hospital staff. For over thirty years he was director of the university of Cincinnati; was president of the board of trustees; and filled numerous other important positions. He was conspicuous as an author; and in 1855 translated from the French Reuounard's History of
Medicine and other works. Ho was the author of The Pathology and Treatment of Phthisis; Cool Bathing iu the Treatment of Entoro-Colitis; and numerous other medical Monographs. He died Feb. 10, 1896, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Comegys, Cornelius P., governor, was born in Delaware. He was the sixteenth governor of Delaware in 1837-40. He died in Delaware. Comegys, Joseph Parsons, lawyer. United States senator, was born Dec. 29, 1813, in St. Jones's Neck, Del. He was a member ot the Delaware house of representatives in 1842 and 1848. In 1851 he was appointed one of a. committee of three to revise the statutes of the state; and in 1856-57 he was United States senator to fill a vacancy.

She is editorial writer on the St. Paul Globe and Seattle Post-Intelligence; and a, popular magazine writer. She is the author Book af The Daughter of a Stoic; and of Martyrs.
