Converse, Frederick Shepherd, musician, composer, was born Jan. 5, 1871, in Newton, Mass. Since 1905 he has been assistant professor of music at Harvard college. He is the composer of Festival of Pan; Night and
Day; Three Love Songs; Silent Noon; The Mystic Trumpeter; and other songs. Converse, George Albert, naval officer, was born May 13, 1844, in Norwich, Vt. In 1865 he entered the united States navy; and in 1899 attained the rank of rear-admiral. Since 1904 he has been chief of the bureau of navigation.
Converse, George L., lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born June 4, 1827, in Georgesville, Ohio. He was a member of the state house of representatives in 1860-63; state senator in 1864-65; again in the lower house of the legislature in 1873-76, serving as speaker in 1873-74. In 1879-85 he was a representative from Ohio to the fortysixth, forty-seventh and forty-eighth congresses. He died March 30, 1897, in Columbus, Ohio.
