The meeting at Glasgow, held December 9th, the Lord Provost in the chair, was addressed by Mr. Alex. Graham, Mr. John Tennant, Mr. Walter Buchanan, and Mr. Higginbotham, Amongst the subscribers were Messrs. A. & J. Dennistouin, Charles Tennant & Co., William Dixon, Saml. Higginbotham, and Dunlop, Wilson, & Co., £200 each; the Lord Provost, and Buchannan, Hamilton, & Co., £100 each; a friend, £60; Neale Thomson, James Scott, Alex. Grahain, D. Mc. Phail & Co., Wm. Stirling & Sons, and S. R. & T. Brown, £50 each. The amount subscribed before the meeting broke up was £2,581.

The meeting at Halifax, hold 11th December, was addresswd by Mr. Jonathan Akroyd, Mr. C. Wood, M.P., Mr. E. Ackroyd, Mr. Cobden, Mr. J. T. Clay, Mr. Bright, Col. Thompson, and Mr. R. R. Moore. Amongst the subscribers were Messrs. James Ackroyd & Sons, £300; Josh. Stocks & Co., John Crossley & Sons, and John Hadwin & Sons, £100 each; Henry Ambler, Thomas Taylor & Sons, and J. T. Clay, £50 each. The total amount was £1,430. The meeting at Leeds, December 12th, was addressed by Mr. Hamer Stansfeld, Mr. James Garth Marshall, Mr. Henry Ashworth, Mr. Carbutt, Mr. Cobden, Mr. Frederic Baines, Mr. Bright, Col. Thompson, and others. Amongst the subscribers were Messrs. Marshall, $500; John Marshall, £300; Stansfeld, Brown, & Co., $150; Peter Fairbairn, J. Wilkinson & Co., and W. Lupton & Co., £100 each; and Beverley & Simpson, E. Baines & Sons, John Waddingham, and Benjamin Walker, 250 each. Before the meeting separated the amount subscribed was £2,110. Those, be it recollected, were only beginnings. The success furnished subject for reasonable congratulation at a second meeting in Manchester, at which it was reported that the subscription there had reached £20,280. Amongst the subscribers since the previous meeting were, Messte. J. & N, P. Philips & Co., £500; Alfred Orrell, William Walker, and Geo. Foster, £200 each; John Kenworthy &
